Hi everyone, just wondering whether anyone knows what size and how much media (bioballs etc) should a sump tank be for an 8'x3'x3' plywood and fiberglass tank?
Any recommendations or advice regarding the design and setup?

not sure when you will get the tank, or you already have it, but a friend of my is getting a 435G (group buy) so they will have to wait for few weeks for them to be made, he knows sump in and out, he been making it for 33 years now. when i got problem with my sump i ask him, he makes his own sump and he makes sump for others with all types of tank size, if you can wait, when he comes back i will go see what sump he did for his 435G and i'll tell you what i saw with pictures :D

(*note i didn't say he is the "best in the world with sump" because i don't say someone is best in the world, with out solid prove :D)

x2 but for a 5' x 2' x 2'

Hey mate,
Thanks for that. I appreciate it if you can ask your friend since he sounds experienced in this matter. I used to have a small sump made up for an 8x2x2 tank and that had 3 dividers. 1st one - consists of filter wool then bioballs, 2nd compartment - for heaters and 3th - for pump. THat design seemed to work pretty well, however i don't want to take any risks with this big tank.
It will be interesting to see how your friend normally design his sump. This is for a tropical fish tank.
Cheers,

I was planning on using a 125. 72x18x24

I would shoot for something in the neighborhood of 100G. Heck, you might even be able to get away with a 75 if you design it right.
