hey im looking at getting an aquarium for my room and was looking to see if anyone could help me with some questions. Thw two types of fish i want to put in it are Largemouth Bass and Yellow perch, could the two species co exist in a tank? WHat size tank would be best? Also what should i put in it and types of filters? Any comments or ideas would be appreciated

Start out at about 150 gallons and once they get up past two feet go as big as you can, around 400g is probably a good minimum for a LMB. The LMB would likely outgrow the perch, though, and eat him.

And be sure to understand the nitrogen cycle well before putting fish into an aquarium.

Welcome to the hobby and mfk! Lmb for minimum I have seen quoted anywhere from 180 on up, personally I agree with knifegill simply for the fact they will outgrow the depth of the 180 it may take a while but they will need the extra depth of a bigger tank. Read the stickies on cycling before you put any fish in VERY important. I think the better question would be what size tank are you able to put in the room? Maybe we should look for a stocklist for a different size tank? Or is a 180 on up where you want to start?

No one else thinking what I am? Ie if your new to this, do not start with two fish that grow as large especially the LMB! I don't think a noob should start with this IMO, as it doesn't sound like the op understands the nitrogen cycle and stuff. Get yourself a 100 gallon tank or something and start with some common tropical fish first...

I am positive saying that you will need a tank larger than 100g for the two bass....I would stick with a footprint of 6 foot long, or longer..........Your basic 125g is 6ft by 18 by 18..........As for the filtration, build one yourself.....For the best and cost effecient biological filter, build a DIY(do-iy-youself) wet/ddry filter for under $100.......For proper mechanical filtration, purchase two Aqua Clear 101's($59-79 each).............If and when you have questions on what is the meaning of the different types of filtration,MECHANICAL-BIOLOGICAL-CHEMICAL, please read from your local book stand first, and then ask the detail questions here, it just feels better..........

I would have to agree here, but if you are dead set on the stock list, do a lot of research first. You are looking at a relatively large tank in short order here, and that can correspond to a lot of work for a noob. A lot of people start out gung-ho on the fish thing, then get burnt out bc they don't understand what it's all about. You are in the right place here on mfk though, and can learn pretty much all you need to know. The search function is your friend. If you DO buy a huge tank and hate it though, you can always sell it to a fellow mfk-er on the cheap!:naughty:
