SO HERE IS THE PROBLEM! WE ARE DEBATING BETWEEN A 125 GALLON AND 150 GALLON. THE 125 IS 72X18X22 FOR $611(TANK AND STAND) AND THE 150 IS 72X18X25 FOR $794(TANK AND STAND). WE WILL BE PUTTING OUR AMERICAN CICHLIDS FROM OUR WAY TOO SMALL 75GALLON IN THE NEW TANK. WE HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT THE SURFACE AREA IS MORE IMPORTANT THEN THE ACTUAL NUMBER OF GALLONS WHEN FIGURING OUT HOW MANY FISH THE TANK CAN HOLD. WOULD WE BE ABLE TO HOUSE MORE FISH WITH THE 5 EXTRA INCHES IN HEIGHT? OR WOULD THEY BOTH BE ABLE TO HOLD THE SAME AMOUNT OF AMERICAN CICHLIDS? ITS ALMOST $200 TO HAVE THE EXTRA 25GALLONS.... THIS SEEMS LIKE ALOT OF MONEY. AND THE ONLY REASON I'D STEP UP TO THE LARGER TANK IS IF WE COULD KEEP MORE FISH OR IT CUT BACK ON AGGRESSION. WE ARE LEANING MORE TOWARDS THE 125GALLON... ANYONE HAVE ANY INPUT ON OUR SITUATION?? :headbang2

The extra gallons in height of the 150g will really not help when it comes to adding more fish, lessening aggression or providing more room for territorial fish. You are basically just gaining water volume which does help to keep your water parameters in check. That being said I personally love the look of taller tanks, they are true show piece aquariums that make a huge statement.

With the amount of money you are looking to spend it seems like your not far off in price for a 180g (72x24 footprint). This would give you a lot more potential when it comes to fish.

125... as said already, height doesn't really help much (unless you have something like an arowana and large rocks in the bottom which may bother them, but you've already said you don't so it's a waste, especially for 200 more!!!)

or I could build you a 200-250 gallon for just about half the price lol and thats including labor.

125 or 180.

150 is a waste of money an just makes it harder to reach the bottom of the tank.

I love my 30" tall tank...I wish all my tanks were 30".

I'd go with the 150g, bigger is better no matter how you slice it.

Just heaping on the "get the 125" train, unless your gonna stretch for the 180. But honestly, I'd probably just buy a set from somebody on craigslist and save about $400 on all of that stuff, myself.

Bigger is better... but $180 for 25 more gallons and nearly the exact same footprint is a ripoff, imo.
