Hi I'm new to this forum and really want to get into keeping peacock bass. I've just ordered 3 young cichla online at about 4". I have a 150g tank at the moment but I'm going to put them in a 30g till they are a little bigger. I have ordered 2 temensis and 1 ocellaris. Will the 150g be big enough in the long run or will I need a bigger tank. If so how long will a 150g last them.
Thanks

Welcome to MFK!

Those tems have a potential size of 3ft long! Realistic growth rate will average around 1" per month, although of course you can expect growth in length to slow a little as they get older and start putting on girth!

Good luck with them

PS. out of interest, where did you order them from?

dimentions of the 150?

most are ethier 6'x18", or 5'x2', ethier way your going to neeed to go bigger quick. for tems, 10'x4' mabey more, occels 6-8'x3'. fast growers and you'll defo need to go bigger.

The tank is 7ftx20x24. I ordered them from tropical fish finder. I thought I'd never find cichla in the UK. They should be coming on Tuesday, I can't wait. I thought I might need a tank that big. I've noticed that everyone says tems grow to 3' but I've seen an awful lot of pics on this forum but no 3' tems. Surely they don't get that big in an aquarium.

in correct aquaria they should grow to 3' anything else is stunted, look at JOhnPTC's cichla- his tems are over 31" and there kept in a good aquarium for them- 10,000 gals.

Unfortunately tems get HUGE the ocel should be much more suitable for the tank 2-3 ocel or monos should get 1.5 to 2 years out of a 150.

You could always grow the tems up and find them a better home later now that they are already on the way. I am sure there is a large market for them just like there is in the US

lol tems do get 3 feet... its just no one on this forum has had them long enough....there are a few that are around 27+ inches

Those are good dimensions for a 150. The ocell should be able to live in there for a while. Im not too sute about the tem though, they get big very quickly.
