im looking into getting a peacock bass. what size tank? Ive been reading all different sizes. i've read as low as 55 gal , low as 125 gal. so what is it? I have a 90 gal and my largemouth bass will grow out of there tank so i would like to have another fish in mind. And i love the way they look.

so theres are smaller species of the pbass? I really would like one or two-but i don't want to get a 600gal tank (well i would love one, but don't think my wife would let me lol)

I believe kelberi's stay rather small (under 24"), but from what I've heard, they're a lot more difficult to come by than the other species.

Kelberi do stay rather small. They max out out around 18". A 180 would be doable for a few Kelberi. The more common species like Monos and Ocells get around 24", so they would eventually outgrow a 180, but they could be in there for a little while. Orinos are slow growers, and could be in a 180 for a long time. If you get one of the species other than Kelberi, you should have a tank that is at least 30" wide and 6 feet long (although these fish move like lightning, and an 8 foot tank would be better).

They won't get more than 24". Azuls will get around 30" and Tems can get up to 36".

Oh, guess I was confusing monos with tems (I'm terrible with differentiating between the different cichla species). :nilly:

Kelberi can and do grow larger than 18"... I would say 22" should be an appropriate max size. Monos can grow longer than 24", azuls can get as long as 36", and tems are known to reach 40". Either way, I think a 300g should be the minimum size for even the smaller/slower growers.
