I'll be setting up another tank over the summer, haven't bought the tank yet so that leaves me to find a tank that will fit my desired stock list.

Basically what I want is 1 Red Terror (Festa) and then 2 Green Terrors (1 x Gold Saum, 1 x Silver Saum). Then will probably add a big school of tetras for dithers.

I know bigger is always better, but building a 500g pond or something isn't an option.

both are vicious and grow huge so I'd say a 180. I've read of female festae killing their mate in a 125 lol

... but since we never really end up with the fish we planned at first I'd say get a tank as big as you can afford and have fun with it.

Well, I have my 150g as my community setup. So looking to have a 'Terror Tank' with this second tank.

If 180g sounds like a good size to attempt that stock list with then I'll start looking for tanks that are 180-240g range. If 125/150g tanks might work for the proposed stock then I'll look for 125-240g tank range.

Price and availability are everything, which is why I want to start looking for a tank right away that would work for the stock - might find a craigslist deal or something :)

go for 240g then if you can... they might be fine in something like a 90 gal for long time (slow growers) if you get them as juveniles, but the extra space will really save you a lot of trouble in the future... and give you a lot of room to experiment.

Well, the smallest tank I would even think about housing the stock list I want would be a 125g which can be found in my area for $300-$500. A 150g is in the range of $450-$650 and anything larger then that is easily $800+.

Thus why I was looking for the minimum tank size that could possibly work - tanks in my area (even used) are pricey, so looking at CL daily for a good deal is what I'd be doing right away.

yeah i here ya tank prices suck where im at also. a 180 or 240 would be perfect. i would try for a male and female GT and a female festae and some dithers. a 180 would be good for them. and good luck

tank prices suck in miami as well... all the good aquarium deals are def. in CA lol... used 300 gal with sump, stand, lights and all the goodies for like $600

Well, it helps that a lot of MFK'ers are in SoCal and can give fellow MFK'ers a good deal before they list it on CL. Totally jealous of all the deals there.

And thanks guys, I'll start looking for at least a 180g right now. As I know GTs grow slower then RTs I might use the GTs I have in my 150g once I can determine their sex. So I would imagine the GTs would be right around 4" to a 1-2" RT.

Any tricks to sex RTs at a young age or is pretty much flip a coin and hope for the best?

No tricks. unless you know how to vent them at that size the best way is to grow a group out untill 3.5-5" before youll know. and even venting can be tricky
