I've heard mixed opinions and was just wondering what the minimum tank size is for each of the following fish as an adult. I would like to get a few of them but I know a lot could never fit in a 220 I'm just wondering.
Peacock Bass
Silver Arowana
Florida Gar/ Spotted Gar
Jardini Arowana
Clown Knife Fish
Tiger Shovel Nose Catfish
Lima Shovel Nose Catfish
Red Tail Catfish
Red Belly Pacu
Ornate Bichir

1) are you asking about a single specimen tank? And if not, what else will be in the tank?

2) are you assuming any limitations on filtration? If so, what are those?

3) are you assuming any limitations on housekeeping (large, frequent water changes, frequent vacs)? If so what limitations.

No just in general like 1 per tank. My filtration is 2 Cascade 1500 canister filters and one Aquaclear 110. I have a powerhead for circulation and I will do as much water changes as I need too. I'm fine with doing 50% 3 times a week.

Thier are defintly many threads where each fish listed has a tank size mentioned. Looks to me each fish will require at least 200+ disregarding the bichier and the lima shovel...

Red Tail Cat defintly is the biggest on that list and defintly you should dig out a pond for one since your out in florida ;)

Definitely will once I move. I'm currently renting a house so once my family buys one a pond would be awesome.

Jardini generally don't do well with tankmates. A single jardini could work in a 220g assuming your tank is 24" wide. Unfortunatly for you jardini are illegal/resricted in the state of Florida.

For all these fish I would say 250g...except for the RTC. But thats just me. Some people think its okay to have one of each in a 220 together as long as they are all young fish, others say no way to any of them and still others say just a couple as long as they get along together... All the fish mentioned are aggressive in their own right and all get very large. I would use common sense and really try to evaluate each on its own. A catfish will sit on the bottom and not need to thrash around like an Aro or Peacock. A Pacu will hang out in the middle like a Gar and just kinda sit there. The Aro will constantly move around and are very skittish, so a big space is needed for swimming. I Clown Knifes and Bichirs arent really known for swimming around alot either.

Put it in this perspective...a Cadillac will fit in a single car garage and be safe and secure, but forget keeping it from getting door dings. Even a two car garage wouldnt allow you to service it comfortably. A Honda in the same space, thats more realistic. Neither car can turn around inside the garage though, so maybe a different storage option is advisable, especially if the Cadillac and the Honda are prized collectibles.
