Channa bleheri?:)

i was thinking about them , found some on the internet for £16.50 for 8cm to 10cm.

are they active and is there anything bigger i can in that tank

by my calculations thats around 4ft x 15 x 18 or somewhere near or approx a juwel240 sort of size.

if you are planning on doing it the best way ,and keeping a species tank , you have a fair few options here. 1st you need to decide tropical or sub-tropical ,

i know you said last this tank for 3 years , but any snakehead will of reached its potential before 3 years , so that does not really come in to it , you need to look at adult size , however there is still a fair few options

from the smaller groups you have:

channa orientalis
channa gachua - any varient
channa sp assam
channa sp turquoise
channa bleheri - ps to answer your question on theese ,yes they are very active
channa bankanensis
channa sp 5 stripe
channa panaw
channa punchata

and some possabilites

channa pulchra
channa africana
channa asiatica

some examples to say away from

obviously any channa from the group classed as large but also the following as they either get too large or too aggresive for that tank
channa aruantimaculata
channa maculata
channa insignis
channa obscura
channa ornatapinis
channa stewarti inc all varients
channa lucia
channa straita
channa pleurophthalma

so you need to have a look see what is available and what you actually like.

might go for
channa asiatica ,
channa pulchra,
2 Channa punctata,
are these active , are they better by them self or two in a tank.

hi mate , yeah iam still breeding them , although most of my stock is not going to be sexually mature until next year. still got some juvie pulchra though.

with any snakehead best to start out with a small group and then let them pair off as they get older ,you will eventually end up with a bonded pair , they bond for life and thing should be fairly peacfull for the most part anyway from then on .

out of the ones you mentioned , the punchata would be best suited to your tank , then pulchra then asiatia , i find asiatica quite aggressive and even bonded pairs can kill each other.

of course if you just wanted to keep one fish , then there would be no problem with asiatica , i dare say you could probably get away with one auranti for a good few year or one obscura ,ornatapinis ,stewarti ,ect just do not try and put two of them in that size tank ,they would kill each other

if you are looking for cheep pulchra , mine are now £45 for 6 delivered any day inc saturday for any member of the forum in the uk . non-members price is £10 each plus delivery they are only around 5cm each at the moment , but starting to pick up speed growing now.

wildwoods have some nice panaw and rainbows in stock , they deliver also

cheers col
