This is my friend's hamster and she wants to know what species of hamster she has and since I am no hamster expert I thought I would ask you guys. Anyone?

No way is it a syrian. It's either a russian or a dwarf, maybe slight chance chinese thoug dont quote me on that one.

Its the only hamster i could think of.... and i just wanted to post because the nails, lol. I wanted it to seem productive

The first pic I thought it was a russian, but the second made me think otherwise. Mind you I've never kept hamsters, just my sister used to have russians lol. Looking at pics, it looks similar to a dwarf, but i have no idea which species because apparently there are 4...
I did hear that the original hamsters as pets originally came from one mother, that gave birth to a litter in captivity (I presume Mesocricetus auratus) and that these were the founder group of hamsters as pets leading to a very genetically short group. Might be an old wifes tale though...
