What species usually make up a flowerhorn?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Flowerhorns are always made of a number of species, the original ones that are involved in creating the first 'Flowerhorn', plus whatever is in the BP that is added in to generate the ancestor of basically all strains of Flowerhorns now. I don't think anything from before that exists anymore.

Other stuff are added in later on in 'different amounts' and different traits were selectively breed to generate the different strains nowadays. And the solos all over as well.

Origin

Flowerhorn breeding dates from 1993. Malaysians admired fish with protruding heads, known as Karoi or "warships," found in the western part of the nation. The slightly protruding forehead and long tail of these fish were prized in Taiwanese society as bringing luck in geomancy. By 1994, red devil cichlids (typically Amphilophus labiatus) and trimac cichlids (Amphilophus trimaculatus) had been imported from central America to Malaysia and the hybrid blood parrot cichlid had been imported from Taiwan to Malaysia and bred these fish together, marking the birth of the flowerhorn.

In 1995, the blood parrots were further crossbred with the Human Face Red God of Fortune, which produced a new breed called the Five-Colors God of Fortune. With its beautiful colors, this fish quickly became popular. Selective breeding continued through 1998, when the Seven-Colors Blue Fiery Mouth (also known as Greenish Gold Tiger) was imported from Central America, and crossbred with the Jin Gang Blood Parrot from Taiwan. This crossbreeding led to the first generation of Hua Luo Han flowerhorn hybrids, which were then followed by subsequent flowerhorn introductions.

depends on what type of fh..

the classic main original FHs with the Chinese words across the body is mainly From Trimac..

Then further breeding evolved them and strains branched out from whatever they were bred to..

No one can tell u the correct answer unless they are the one who bred the individual fh from scratch..

zz type flowerhorns are trimac based. I believe about 60% or more which would explain fertility though this part is just a guess.
kamfas usually have high amount of paraneetroplus(formerly vieja/paratheraps) blood in them. But Ive seen kamfa type fish from herichthys species too.
all faders have some midas/red devil blood in them
the animal guy has it right pretty much.
