Labeled as Wild Payara at LFS. Anybody know what the species is? Are there more than one payara species? Any help would be great. Sorry for the pic quality. Only had my cell with me.

The term payara is a name that the natives call these fish.It is used in the hobby to refer to any one of the fish in the Hydrolicus family but usually the Armatus,Tatuia, and Scomberiodes which is what the fish in your pictures look to be.The scombs are usually the cheapest and least desireable of the three that I mentioned. The storekeepers probably got the fish in labeled as wild payara and they did'nt bother to find out just which one it was.

Thanks, He has it listed as Wild from Peru. I thought the price was pretty good too for a wild fish $28.99. 5-6". Is this different from the "red tailed payara"? I'm assuing it is.

Is that Aquariumcenter?I know they have had some for a while now. They are different from the red tailed payara, that fish is the Tatauia that I mentioned earlier also known as red tailed tats or just simply, tats. The price is not bad for the scombs though.

HAHA. It is Aquarium Center. I'm not a big fan of the store but it's the only thing around me that has some rare stuff. He' kinda has the market locked up in the area. Where do you get your stuff?

Yeah I go there from time to time and the last time I stopped in they had raised the price of the Backtip reef shark to five thousand dollars.:WHOA:I also drive up to SharkAquarium when I am up for the ride. The stores in this city that have'nt closed down are not what they used to be.They had two different payara in side by side tanks when I was there, the other ones were Rhaphiodon Vulpinus for 39.99,did they have any of those left?

Yes they still have 2 of them left. Pretty decent size too. They're right next to the Payara. I'll have to check out Shark Aquarium. It is a pretty far drive though. The blacktip is supposed to be going to the Aquarium in Camden. I'll believe that when I see it. I was there when they pulled it out of the shipping box. Initial price was $1500. I thought that that was a lot.

Nice scombs. What are you feeding it?
