Hi all a friend bought this back for me a couple of weeks ago .

Snakehead1.jpg

Sold as Channa Longlineatus(which is a B*ll*ks latin name)

I cant make my mind up wether its a Gachua(no blue in the fin) or a Stewarti (the marking dont seem right).

Any help on this would be much apprciated

Thanks

Looks like neither. Maybe it's one of those newer species, I'm thinking the 5 line snakehead. Not sure of the latin name though.

its not just the strips that make me think this its also the strip that run horizontaly through the eye

Thanks for lead I'll research them.

hello!
this is definitely no five stripe snakehead.it looks like a channa gachua variant.five stripe channas never have orange edge in dorsal fin and tail.even their scales are much bigger look like snakeskin at five stripes.the color of this fish is not the usual color, looks as if its stressed so no color only brown.
can you tell me the country where they catched him?
here in germany we got first channas from laos, they called channa spec. hibiscus but they are a gachua variation too.but a very nice and colorfull.
its possible that they will revise the channa gachua complex and give some species we know as gachua at the moment new names but for the moment i would say this here on your photo is channa gachua variation.
greetings from germany

p.s.:excuse my bad english.

it could be a channa punctata if it is it will get to around 12" and be very heavy bodied but still manageable also they are ok in tropical temps and i want one!!!
