Not a lot of room in there for new world cichlids. Your only real options are convicts, HRP, sajica, cutteri, or any of the others in the convict group or maybe rainbow cichlids.

I would go with a pair of honduran red points because they stay smaller then convicts and are a little more colorful.

I agree with jgentry that its a bit small for most new world cichlids. i dont think the convict pair will be able to reside in the 2x1x1 for life, it may be a bit cramped as they grow.
you could look at dwarf cichlids. some of them should do fine in that size tank or you could go african with some shell dwellers, they stay quite small i believe but check just to make sure.

thx for the heads up, i know it will get to small for a par as they grow but i will have more money:D and tanks by then hopefully, if not i always have spare tanks at the back of my lfs where i work set up for my fish
hehe

i just want them to spawn off a couple of times and then i will have another tank by then:nilly:

are honduran red points harder to breed or are they also like the sluts of the fishworld
