Whats the best "gravel" to use for fire eels? I'm currently using a fine gravel but my guy seems to have issues burying easily, and I'm afraid he's gonna cut himself up one of these days. I'm thinking either pool filter sand or Eco-complete as the 40 breeder he's in atm will be converted into a planted tank once he's out-grown it. Or Is it best to go bare bottom? What do you guys use/ recomend ? I'm also getting another pair of babies this week hopefully :D to live with "cuddles" after loseing my other eel i feel bad as he/she seems to be almost lost without a buddy. And the needle nose gar fish just looks at him apprehensively. haha he's smaller then "cuddles" is now. past 1.5 monthes she's already grown a solid 2" so up to over 14" :headbang2

I heard silica sand is bad for rays, would it be bad for the eel as well? took me awhile but got a line on where I can pick up some natural sand colored pool filter sand :headbang2 and picked up a few more pvc peices for the tank so it's gonna be crowded. held off on the babies until I get the tank situated how i want it. by the time i get it re-vamped cuddles is gonna outgrow the tank. also got a line on a 180 :D.

i use black tahitian moon sand for my eels and ray they love it,they bury under it

sand good, tahitian moon sand better! i say nay on the eco complete as it is going to be just a difficult if not worse for them to dig in. its closer to gravel than sand

Cool beans. I can get the moon sand too, I had looked at that. I figured ray safe = eel safe.

if you have a leslies pool supply store.. pick up a 50 lb bag, i have 3 bags in my 100 and my eel loves the stuf.
