Hi there,

I'm getting 2 senegals and maybe a palmas.

I bought some 2mm "gilbet midnight" gravel which is a blackish sort of gravel. I was thinking of either adding white or red gravel to it.

What do most people do? What will bring out the best colour in the senegals?

Thanks,

Andrew

Hi Andrew the best substrate for upper jaw bichirs are black substrate, brings out the green color in them.. the base color would turn darker too.

btw here's my observation in my sens coloration after months of experimentation with gravel

red gravel= sens would turn tan to brownish
black gravel= turns black or dark grey with streaks of green
white gravel= grey or dirty white in color

its up for you to decide... mixing color seems to have no effect to senegals unlike the lower jaws which
improves contrast to markings.
