Just curious, I lowered mine from 80 to 76 and the agression in my tank between my two cobra pike seemed to go down as well.

Two weeks ago my fish didn't get very excited when I dropped in some feeders. I was busy and didn't think much about it. 2 days later I dropped in some more feeders and noticed there were some left from the last batch. There are never feeders left in the tank. I check the temp. 68 degrees! The automatic water change valve was opened up too much and it was overwhelming the heater. It had been at 68 for at least a week when I caught it. During that week the fish just hung out and didn't got along great.

Over the course of 4 days I raised the temp back up to 80. The male Hop shredded the female's fins and they laid eggs. The pikes colored up and the Cichla started eating like pigs again.

The colder temps will definitely mellow the fish out. The downside is that their color is usually drab and uninspired when the water is cooler.

On average I keep my tanks at 78 degrees with a bump up to 82 when trying to breed them.

I always keep mine at 82 degrees, i have no heater though as it never gets colder then that in manaus. its also natural. For each his own!
Bye

82-84 deg.

I use cooler (not cold) water during water changes to simulate a rainfall.

I would love to be able to do that, that would be so awesome!! :D

Normally my tanks are between 82 and 86. They drop down to around 78 to 80 during waterchanges. Definately the best colors out of your fish possible!! ;)

Mark, I've had a similar problem on my 55gal!!!! I did a waterchange and unplugged the heater. Forgot about it for about four days before I realized that the water was too chilly. Got down to 66!!! ACK!!! Unfortunately it was during a time when I was trying to cure some stupid ich...didn't go over so well. Got it cured now, but oy! Was a battle after that!
