What is the lowest the peacock bass can be kept?

If you mean tha Astronotus Occelatus, it's 13,9 dgrs C, that wouldt be 56,84 dgrs F.
Below this temp an oscar will die.
If it is Cicla Monoculus you mean, I don't know.

Probably 78-80 but its usually reccomende to keep the temps around 86+. Why??

better to keep them at 86-90...
higher temps = faster growth,fights off disease (especially when you feed feeders),and they seem to prefer it that way?

My cichla are in tanks ranging from 82-86*

Just throw a couple 300 watt heaters in the pond. I did that last year and it worked great. My pond was on the smallish size though.
