Hi I need your Help )v(onster fish keepers.
What are the lowest temps Gator gars tolerate in the wild in Texas.
I think I need a Texan gar fishermans knowledge because I would like to plan a future outdoor pond for my new Gator gar.
Melbourne can get down to single digits overnight and I want to know if they could tolerate it for short periods or if I must heat the pond.

heating the pond is always better and doesn't cost that much

What are the best and cheapest methods of outdoor heating??

You're talking single digits celsius right? If so you should be OK without a heater. It can get below freezing through a lot of inland TX.

Should be ok outside all year long provided your not somewhere that your pond will freeze solid. According to Bowling Green State University here in Ohio Alligator gar were common inhabitants of the state in the Ohio river valley before being almost completely wiped out by man and I can tell you its gets pretty cold here.

Thats great... perfect for Melbourne where the water doesn't freeze but it does get down to single digit degrees celsius abmient air temperature. So I think the water temperature should be alittle bit higher.
