They are different species. They resemble in appearance. True wild caught RD's have enlarged lips due to there hunting nature. Midas have more of a robust shape to them. RD's have more of a slender snout than the midas.

You can ask Jeff Rapps.

they are in the same family, Amphilophus, but are two different fish. the red devil is Amphilophus Labiatus and the midas is Amphilophus Citrinellum. if you look on Jeff Rapps' site http://www.tangledupincichlids.com/photo.html , his photo gallery shows some really good examples of each fish which clearly show their differences.

they are often bred together to create a cross often referred to as a midas. these crosses are generally found in most chain stores claiming to sell either one of these specific species.
true midas or devils are best sought from a dealer like rapps or a known breeder of each.
thats the basics (i think) but someone with more knowledge will probably correct me.

I got this caption from aquariumlife.net under fish profiles...
RD's
Description: The Red Devil has a great deal of variability in its structure and coloration. Some are bright red while others are white or yellow. Some have black-tipped fins and tail with black lips, while others have thick rubbery lips. They are very "owner conscious" and will follow you when you walk in front of the aquarium and also respond to interactions like cleaning the aquarium and feeding. Although they can be kept in aquariums around 50 gallons, bigger aquariums can reduce their aggressiveness. They have been known to live with other fish, but will usually not tolerate the same, or other species of fish in the same aquarium. Very similar to Cichlasoma citrinellum, or Midas Cichlid, some sites still list them as the same fish. They are found in different places though, while the Red Devil is only found in the Nicaraguan lakes, Midas can ranges from Costa Rica to Nicaragua.
