what the h*** am i to do?

have a 48x15x15 with one large piece of wood 29x13x6 its going to be planted with anubias and swords. I would like an active aggressive specimen for it but i dont want a wolf, snakehead (illegal) or pike cichlid.
What should i put in it?

I was tempted a barracuda (A. altus) is that possible?

i second that. but you are gonna want a top dweller. that tank is about 46gal. right? try for some ancient fish like bichirs and knifefish.

Are bowfin active? I thought they would be too big for the tank i have.
to reiterate i want something midwater (pref) active and aggressive dont mind if i only have one

Bowfin get big. how good are your LFS? Here are some aussies I like that might work for you, mouth almighty 7", margined flagtail 7", coal grunter 13", and spangled perch 12" 2 color phases (my choice for that tank). All are pretty active and can be aggressively feeding fish, although not so much as snakeheads, more like bass. that fish is the top and bottom pics.
