I know this is a hot topic, but I just had to post my frustration before I took out a wall! :swear:

My 55 show tank has been stable, healthy and just PERFECT for months, all after working my *** off to get a parasite problem worked out.

The other day, I found some very healthy looking clown loaches on sale, could not pass up it up since I wanted them for my 150, and it is almost nearly up and running. Since they were some what new, I put them on hold to get the next day, just to be sure. So, got them home, took the time to add them correctly, even did a full treatment of melafix and shot of stress coat. Well, after about a week, I finally had some time to really sit and watch my tank. WHITE SPOTS EVERYWHERE!!!!!:wall::wall::wall::wall::wall: Only one of the loaches has them, but all but 4 silver dollars have. So, since my tank has been perfect I know it was from the loaches, plus they are very prone to ick with transportation.

SO, my tank is already at 82-84 ish. started quick cure with a low dose of salt (live plants)

Now the waiting game....:(

ouch man..yeah i usually try and quarantine my new fish from my main tank for like a week.. hope all turns out well

Well this should teach you to quarantine all new fish first. It really is the best method for prevention. Chock it up to lesson learned.

What really pisses me off (forgot to say) is that a week or 2 before I got them, I purchased a 10g just for quarantining! But, before I put them in, I tested and was not finished cycling yet :cry:.. SO, just threw in the main tank with the meds and what not. :irked:!

I KNOW! but with loaches, even the transfer from a QT to the main tank could cause ick with them I'v heard...

I don't know about that. With all the CLs I have had I never had an issue with ick after quarantining. Good luck I hope you don't lose any of them.

Well the runt of the 4 I got finally passed the other day. :( He always acted a bit different, so might of been other factors involved.

I just do not understand, every other fish is completely free of ick now, but the 3 remaining CL's are covered. They look a bit better, but dang, my dollars cleared up in like 3 days!

If this is normal for CL's I think these are not only my first, but last ones. Which sucks, because I really like them.
Are they harder when they are bigger?

And just in case anyone wants to know:
Ammonia = 0
Nitrates = 5ish
Nitrites = 0
PH = 7.2
Temp = 86F
Last WC= 8 Days Ago (60%)

Alright, here is the update.

I lost one CL, one cleared up fast, slowly followed by another. The 3rd was doing bad, so I finally got good levels in my QT, so moved him to there and did the full dose treatment at 89F... At last, he is perfectly cleared up now.

SO, I am giving both tanks a good week of salt/high temps now that everything has cleared up. Then will re-add the 3rd to the main tank.

I figure I will leave the main temp at 87F for a few days after I place the 3rd back in, just to round out the whole deal.

*deep breath* Now I can start to relax :D
