Hi,
So, I have a 225 Gallon tank with:
10" Silver arowana X1
8" Female Motoro Ray X1
6" Male Motoro Ray X1
4" Discus X6.

They all eat large amounts of blood worms about X4 a day.

My "problem" is with the discus. The tank is fairly empty, with a large sandy bottom for the rays. The only major aquascaping is a "U" shaped piece of wood at the back of the tank with 2 large, leafy fake plants in it.

All of my discus are showing extremely bright colors and doing this weird dance thing where 2 swim up next to each other and do these crazy "s" shaped sort of dances while staying in place. They are also being very aggressive towards the rays, and not letting them anywhere near the wood and plants where coincidentally, all of the discus are hanging out around, but only 1 or 2 at a time are actually in.

I can also see the egg tubes or whatever they're called on each of the discus.

Am I seeing a breeding behavior? I haven't been able to check for eggs because I don't want to disturb them and I don't have a second set of eyes around to watch the rays while I have my hand in the tank.

Thanks for your time!

i would bet that they are breeding in the cavity of th wood, dont disturb them right now, but if they eat the eggs and stop breeding or start raising them, you can turn the wood so that next time u can see and make sure of whats going on :)

it sounds like breeding behavior , I agree I would not mess them much, but you will know for sure in a few days :D

I'm glad to hear that and that :)
The problem is my little male ray goes into the log every few minutes and looks like he's eating something and the discus all freak out and bite him, so I doubt I'll find out.

Congrats. A good sign you keep your water Quality top notch. In a community setting you are just feeding the other fish caviar and that is OK unless you want the babies. There is no saying some can make it but chances are slim. Just think how many times a pair of discuss breed in the wild and the chances of getting a baby to adulthood.

Some pics of you tank would be nice ( It sounds like an awesome set up)

Take Care

Ok, I'll get pictures ASAP, but i'm using the 0.2 megapixle camera on my phone, so they'll just show up as blurs. I'm getting a new camera soon though. :)

The one weird thing, is i ether have 0 pairs, or i have 3 pairs because they're all doing what had described. I'll update this if I find anything new, but for the time being, thanks for the help everyone! :)

Discus orgy. WOO HOOOOOOOOO :naughty:
If eggs are laid be careful. Discus will be veryyy aggressive. And im not too sure who would win in a fight between a ray and discus. Probably the discus parents.
