Hi. New here. Been lurking for a month or so. Just joined tonight. I got this FH from petsmart bout a month ago. He/she? Was about 3.5" then and now I'd say around 5"-5.5". When I bought it the coloration was dark with a prominent flower line and dark barring and blue accents. In the last week and a half this began happening. I freaked out and thought the fish was sick. Now after reading on the site I'm not so sure. Is this fish fading? If so what does that mean for the way it will end up looking? It eats like a monster, poo is always dark red and never stringy. Very active social fish. Never sulks or hides from me. I have been feeding pellets and the occasional snack of frozen brine shrimp about 1" long from my local pet store. Was originally in the tank with 5 zebra danios 5 tiger barbs 2 bamboo shrimp and an 8 inch tiger Oscar. He/she has now killed everything but the shrimp. My mistake for not researching before jumping in. Sorry for taking off down a rabbit trail. Lol I'm excited. My questions.... Is it fading? Any initial feeling on sex? Any idea on grade and type? Basically what do you think I have here? Paid $6.99 mislabeled as a assorted ca/as cichlid. Thanks for any input.

Beautifull midevil youngster. Pray it stays like this.

With the pink around and under it's gills I'm wondering if there isn't something else in it besides Amphilophus genes. I'd be interested to see what it looks like in 3 or 4 months.

Thanks for the replys. I'm super stoked to hear all of this. Midas x red devil huh? Pretty cool. Do you think it looks like a decent quality fish? Not that it really matters I still love it. Yeah the shrimp are about 3" long so he/ she is not really looking at me like food yet but I'm sure their time will come. Do you think they would be safer in my convict tank? What about eggs? Will they poach the convicts eggs?

Lol I meant not looking at them like food, not me. He definitely looks at ME like food. Oh yeah, no one has weighed in on possible sex of the fish. I know it'll probably have to be vented to know for sure but are there any visible hints at this size? Thanks again for all of your input!

Oh yeah p.s. someone called me a youngster.... I'm thrilled I might still be a youngster but I'm thirty so probably don't qualify anymore. Lol oh well.
