Have you tested your water?
Yes
If yes, what is your ammonia?
Within Limits
If yes, what is your nitrite?
Within limits
If yes, what is your nitrate?
a bit high
If I did not test my water...
  1. ...I recognize that I will likely be asked to do a test, and that water tests are critical for solving freshwater health problems.
Do you do water changes?
Yes
What percentage of water do you change?
31-40%
How frequently do you change your water?
Every week
If I do not change my water...
  1. ...I recognize that I will likely be recommended to do a water change, and water changes are critical for preventing future freshwater health problems.
I think it might just be from him rubbing up against wood
(he tunnels himself into a wood cylinder and does not come out for days, he will not come out for anything. I tried wedging him out a couple times and simply wouldn't budge)

No other fish have these symptoms in the tank.

I am worried because I just got 5 new baby polypterus. I removed him from main tank. Video of injury/disease below.

WHITE SPOTS ARE NORMALLY THERE, THE INJURY IS NOT

I can’t help with the injury besides @‘ing kno4te kno4te for you however I will say that “within limits” and “a bit high” is detrimental to you receiving help. The people who look at this thread need *accurate* numbers, not just “a bit high”/“within limits”, your limits may be different than mine as well with what we each consider a bit high.

This may have come off a bit harsh however it was not my intention as I am trying to help you comrade.

It's a forum, it's hard to have a conversation without it coming off rude no worries since I don't know your tone / expressions. You didn't come off that way anyway.

This is a spotted Raphael Catfish and to be honest, I think this is literally only due to the driftwood he wedged himself in. These suckers literally wedge themself into the deepest hole and never come out. I have personally seen him like twice the 6 months I have had him.

"I used my tongs that I have to move all of that out of the way and there he was stuck in a tiny hole (how he got there I have no clue) but I was able to very carefully pull him out. Needless to say that piece of driftwood will never be going back in my tank."

This is from another site. I measures the water levels today and well I am just a bit embaressed. ammonia was very very low, nitrate was around 40-80ppm, nitrite normal.

So if I’m reading this correct there is some amount of ammonia, nitrate is 40-80, and nitrite is something?

Nitrite was 0, Ammonia was .25 ppm, nitrate 40-80 sorry its like pulling teeth:newbie: im just wiped sorry

I did a 40% water change today when I saw the nitrate levels, and I just did a 30% 3 days before this :(
Canister filter 120 gallon I use seachem prime and stability and monitor pH as well and it was 7.6

Since it’s reading ammonia your tank hasn’t finished cycling or is going through a mini cycle If I recall correctly, the other people will advise you to do more water changes than normal until it cycles and ammonia is at 0.

I am reading about this now. I will do that thank you, you may have just saved my fish. How much water change and at what frequency? Should I add the Seachem Stability Bacteria?

Frankly, I think the tank is F'd. I'm a bit scared to be honest. Especially with the new Polys. I'll do anything and everything I'm told.

I am not the person you want to get advice from when it comes to this, I’d wait until the others chime in that have more experience. Perhaps tlindsey tlindsey could help. duanes duanes you have anything to add comrade?

Okay I have a large canister filter and the medias I use are the bioballs, ceramic, and the charcoal.

Last time I changed the media was 3 months ago. I set it up via a youtube video guide, so it's not like it's not set up right. It has a UV sterilizer too I can turn on if needed.
