i am moving my coldwater fish into a larger tank soon, and so i will need a few more fish to fill the extra space :headbang2

it will be either a 75g or a 90g, with 2 6" sterlets, and 2 5" grass pickerel, so nothing that stays too small.
eventually they will move to a pond

and i would like as much color as possible ... maybe some sort of pan fish / bluegill?

Some pumpkin seeds, green sunfish, and longear sunfish would all be cool, also maybe a rock bass if you can get them. Another that would be easy to get (in the Columbus area) and do well in tanks are yellow perch

getting fish isnt an issue, i have a friend who owns a fish farm in NW ohio ... so i can get a lot of fish, and also zimmermans (east of columbus) can ship me all kinds of sunfish/bluegill/ stuff like that

i was just wondering what some colorful / active fish would be what i am looking for
how many of those could i do? aren;t they pretty aggressive towards one another in a tank ?

what about gars ?
(obviously this is a cold water tank ... its usually in the mid-high 60's)

spotted gar, out of interest what size tank are you planning for the sterlet

OP said they would be going into a pond later...

I'd do any panfish really they are all fun. Bluegill and pumpkin seeds are pretty. I have yellow perch in with my sterlet and Channels and they are doing great. Have more personality than people say they do too.
On that note... how bout a really nice Channel? The albinos are pretty... and the blues can be pretty if you dont mind them growing into a beast... when they are babies they are shiny and spotted :D haha and by the time they get big enough to loose their juvi coloration, youd throw them in your pond :D

How big is the pond going to be?

as for cats, i am not a big fan because all they do is hide, and i would like a nice open tank with no hiding spots. i had a 10" channel, but it was too boring for me. as for a albino ... i'm love how they look when they are huge, i just dont know if i want to mess with it in the mean time lol ... i'd rather wait until all my fish are in a pond and then go out and buy an adult :)

as for tank size, i want to keep them in a tank as long as possible. sturgeon are by far the coolest fish in the world IMO, so i as long as i can afford a tank large enough for them i will do that. my dream tank is at every Pro Bass Shop or Cabellas in america, LOL. once they get too large for something i can afford (1000g or so) then i will either do an outdoor pond or an indoor pond, depending on where i am living at the time, and my available space

lastly about the spotted gar, they can tolerate colder water? and aren't they basically the same as a florida gar?

75-90G is not a "large" tank.

You really don't want to put sunfish in with your pickerel, especially aggressive species such as bluegill, green sunfish, and pumpkinseeds. Longears are iffy, some are aggressive and others aren't.

There aren't too many compatible fish when you're dealing with pickerel. It is best probably to keep them in a species only tank until they are full-size and eating non-live food.

If you have to go with a sunfish, look at warmouth or bantam's. Warmouth are non-aggressive to anything but another warmouth, except small shiners.
