Hi' All,

I've got a spare 15ish G tank with an eheim external eco filter for it and was wondering if i could get get anything in their that's intresting to breed? I have guppies in a 15g so don't need another lot of them.

Ideally i want something in which the parents care for the young in their too without having to sepeate them.

Cheers guys / Gals

You could try shell dwellers from lake tanganyika, they stay pretty small and do care for their young. I think you can keep 4-6 in a 15g.

Here's a link to a general care site. http://www.cichlidrecipe.com/shellweb/shell_care.htm

Brilliant suggestion , never thought of these before! I've got loads of shells somewhere so will get a tank sorted, just need to find somehwere that sells the fish cheap:)

No Prob. They're very interesting fish, you won't regret it. Around here they range anywhere from $8 - $14 depending on species, don't really know how much that is in pounds though.

Yeh most range from £6 upwards, woud Neolamprologus brichardi work? I can get these cheap and i've had a quick read and it says these' look after their own young along with others in the tank! I do have other tanks where i could move the excess fry too.

Brichardi are nice, but you would definitely need something much larger than a 15g to properly maintain them. They are a mid water species not shell dwelling. They also can get pretty nasty towards each other. Minimum tank size I would say is at the very least a 55g. Try looking into Lamprologus Multifasciatus, they are amongst the most popular of tanganyikan shell dwellers.

shell dwellers would be most ideal but brichardi would be fine in my opinion
