I have a 6ft tank approx 320Litres.

Our local council has just started treating our town water. (Membrane & Ultra violet- no chemicals thank goodness) so the water is totally soft. Zero-10 PH 7. I've been keeping African Cichlids but the amount of salts I have to add with water changes to keep up the hardness & PH is time consuming.

I'd like to turn it over to something else. I alreadyhave two tiger Oscars, so am wondering what fish to put in it.

I'd like two, fairly colourful fish that would eventually get a bit of size to them. I like to get fish small and watch them grow. I live in Northern Tropical Australia so true coldwater fish wouldn't like it. minimum water temp in winter is 23 degrees Celsius. I have heaters for tropical fish to keep it up those few degrees if need be.

What should I look for???

Perhaps a flowerhorn. But the oscars would get beat up. From what I've read, meaning that I have no experience with these fish whatsoever, they are very hardy. I could be dead wrong about this though.

You may get lucky and get a nice FH like mine...he is pretty docile...most are freakin evil though

I'd kill for soft water...Discus are nice

Flowerhorns wouldn't be a bad chose, but the chances of getting two to live together peacefully (even if a pair) is kind of slim. But one lone male flowerhorn nicely coloured would be all you'd need.

an amazon tank would be wicked pissa, discus, angels, (altums if you can get them) and schools of tetra in a heavily planted tank... those little rams too. no monsters, but a nice little chunk of nature right in your home.

How big is your tank? If you have a very large tank then you might be able to put a pair of nice Flowerhorns together, but when comes breeding time.. you better seperate them fast, before no more nice flowerhorn! So i really don't recommend 2 Flowerhorn together. I would suggest just one really nice colorful Flowerhorn with nice markings and Jack Dempsey or a Wide barred dat!

Not sure what kind of catfish are avaliable to you in Australia but a nice catfish like Pimelodus ornatus or possibly some Bichirs would fit in rather nice with some Oscars. Another fish to look at is the Siamese Tigerfish. :woot:

The Oscars are in their own 300 litre tank. The 6ft would be a whole new setup if I change it from the Africans, just for the new fish. Sorry i didn't make myself clear, but I'll look up the Flowerhorns. I think I seen one in a local shop a few months back. $45 for a fish about 4-5 cm in length. Thanks
