what should i put in my 30 gal? ( i wanna get a few cichlids but could i also make it more like a community tank?)

Apistogramma cacatuoides (cockatoo apistos), nice smallish, colorful, and fairly easy to breed. These are SA cichlids that don't require the hard water of the africans. They are also not as aggressive as many other cichlids. A couple of pairs in a well aquascaped 30g would also allow several other fish.

kribs are my favorite small cichlid... but they can be pugnacious sometimes

Keyhole cichlids are small SA cichlids, fairly easy to keep. They could work in a community. Other then that your other options include rams, apistos and kribs.

depending on the krib, i think the krib would beat their ass

apistos and rams could be kept together though
