My hi-fin pleco has gotten too big for my current tank. So I'm trying to decide what to do with him. A friend of mine has a big artificial pond he made in yard that he keeps heated during the winter, so should I give it to him for the pond? The only other option would be to give it to a petstore that will shove him in tank that is smaller than the one he's in now

There are a few stores with larger tanks for those donated and such.

Capt. Nemos in Norristown
That Pet Place in Lancaster
Or The Hidden Reef in Levittown....

It gets mighty cold by us in winter so is your friend able to keep the pond up to temp for the pleco and if so DAMN his electric bil must be astronomical...

If you call that fish place they will most likely turn it down as a donation. They dont have room right now for anything big. How large is it?

I know that they had a 24 inch or so catfish in there this past weekend that was donated to the store so they do take them from time to time and they had a few of their 125 gal tanks empty when I was there. Still think the wait is better then putting it in a pond around here unless he has a hell of a heating unit to keep it up to temps in the winter

give him to a petstore. plecos I dont think can live in ponds cuz of the junk and pollutants. also catfish including plecos are more susceptible to ich and skin problems because of lack of scales.

What about posting on Craigslist that you have a free pleco (but needs a large tank)? Also, try contacting a few aquarium societies. Occasionally some of their members will foster or adopt fish. Are you anywhere near the Lancaster Aquarium Society (LAS)? They may have a member interested in it.

Speaking of the LAS and TFP (Pleco talk at TFP 9/17):
