Im new to this whole cichlid thing so i thought id start off with a pair of cons. they paired and laid eggs under a big rock i have in the corner of my tank so im expecting little ones in a day or so. just wondering what others have done with their baby cons after they have hatched. thanks

Well you can either take them out after about 2 weeks and put them in a grow out tank and then do it all again in about a month or so or you can let them grow in there with the parents and still have to take out when older and do it all again you choice so great luck with all of it.

I was waiting for that answer! lol :D

Dither fish, feeders, try and sell them, etc. I'm picking up 18 that will be rescues. :headshake No matter what, a rescue is a rescue. They all matter.:nilly:
Good luck with whatever you decide to do with them!

I vote feeders too.

Of course not for your first batch but when you're surrounded by nothing but convicts and all your friends are done taking in your ba$t@rd children and even the local orphanage (LFS and CL) wont take one of them then its time to feed them to a higher life form.

And since you're into cichlids. Try a Jack Dempsey next then a Jaguar cichlid. Both much more interesting than a convict. (Sorry I'm from Hawaii and these are everywhere in all the waterways so I have no pity for the little foreign invaders).

Good luck though. Its always nice to have your fish breed.

Its Definatly really hard to get rid of them here. Every fish place has a tank full of them that they can not sell. However one pet store owner sells them for 50 cents he had a young boy come in who wanted a pirannah but couldnt afford one so he got a Convict because it will eat guppys.
