Should I setup a feeder fish tank for my guys in my 55 gal or get 2 dwarf puffers? I would think a feeder fish tank would save me some money in the long run....

Comments? Suggestions?

Thanks!
Brian

It might be too smaller for a feeder tank, just becasue it doesn't have any room for the fry to grow out to an edible size for larger predatory fish. I thought about playing around with a 3g tank that I have and just making it a planted tank with a few Oto cats to keep the algae under control or even a small saltwater tank, like the ones that you see at lfs now a days.

:headbang2 mix up some margaritas and get a straw. that would make a great glass with some salt around the edge:naughty:

Really? I didn't think a tank could be too small for feeder guppies. I don't have very large predatory fish so I wasn't planning on breeding mollies or something of that size.

Maybe I will keep it just as a dipping tank for my feeder fish so I can tell if they are diseased or not...

I think feeder tanks should be a minimum of 10g, but that's just me;)

Nano planted or reef. :)

I don't think I'm ready (experience wise) for a nano tank yet...plus I don't have fast access to a pet store I trust that knows their saltwater tanks that I could turn to in an emergency. If I were still up in North Jersey where I grew up...yea, I'd do a Nano setup in a second since I'm close to Route 4 Aquariums in Lodi. Another factor is money. I've heard that its much more costly to build a SW tank than a FW tank. I was reading on nano-reef.com that some guy had already put in $250 into a 3gal picotope that he hadn't even put fish in!! I already have about $600 into my 55 gal setup so I don't need another big money killer... my salary isn't the best :(

Thanks for the suggestions guys (and gals)!!!

Put some plants in there, and throw in some nice guppy pairs( I like cobras). It will look nice and it will supply you with some feeders every now and them. Keep the good looking guppies for more breeding stock and feed the rest to your other fish. Guppies are a fun little fish to keep and breed.

Thanks for the suggestions! I have a few amazon swords I can throw in the tank and I'll pick up some fake plants to finish off the look.

I'm gonna see what kind of guppies they have at my LFS right now!

be back in an hour!
