What to do with my JD???

First off for people that don't know me i have a 55gal currently the only tank stocked.
Well i have had my JD about 3 months ago and he was such a big shot always swimming to the front of the glass and bending his body to make him look bigger at his own image :ROFL:. Now all he does is hide behind my my fake rock formation and only comes out while the tank lights are off.

I have been trying to keep the lights on more to keep him comfortable and also i am trying to get him on pellets, but he doesn't go to the top for them. The pellets are hikari gold.
 
u know he jst has to get used 2 u try giving him worms from outside then give him chiclid gold and work ur way up
 
I wanted to try live feeders , but i figured it would be no good since i have some africans that are a lil bigger then feeder goldfish and he actually chases them and goes as if he is going to gulp them in , but he never does.
 
try wiggling worm in there to see if that will entice him out, you just got to try and be as creative as possible, thats weird that he changed so drastically did something else change at the same time he did that could be freaking him out?
 
no not at all. I meen i bought night crawlers and i would rinse it off first then drop it in he comes out takes it and takes off right away. I also had 1 and stuck my hand in and he took it from my fingers after like 5 mins. but idk i was thinking of takin the small cichlids out and it would be just him and the 2 small FM's. although the small malawi cichlids he chases
