So I picked up a new sump and want to use it on my 75 but the stand I have does not have room to house the sump. I am looking for the easiest way to use it. I can either put the sump in the basement and plumb up to the tank or buy a new stand. I am also looking at the cheapest way to do this. I know I will have to use a very strong pump to pump up 7+feet from the basement. So that is a expense as well as the higher electric bill to run a stronger pump. What would you guys do?

I lost my breath reading your post at pumping it up from the basement just from the sheer expense of the pump for the tank. I honestly feel your best option is either a new stand, or if you have room near the tank perhaps some form of portable cabinet you could put it inside and get a little bit of shelf space for your food.

You could put it down in the basement. I would put it up high so that you don't have so much head height. You could find a decent pump to do this. probably for under $100. Stronger pumps are not always less inefficient. Soemtime they can be just as good. They are just designed differently.
Or you can find/makea different stand. Either way, do what is the best option for you.

Setting up in the basement may be easier than a new stand? I only say that because it would be a pain to take my tank down to change the stand out, I would rather buy a pump, drill some holes through the floor, and plumb it from the basement myself. A better pump may last longer anyways?

I like Pharaoh's idea of setting it up high in the basement, that would work well, just be sure whatever is holding it, holds it well!

i second the vote for putting it up high in the basement.. however i would also put a sheet of high moisture drywall (bathroom drywall, the green stuff) on the celing above the sump simply for peace of mind..

If you have room near the existing stand, I would go with Blackhawkpowers suggestion of a portable cabinet or re-purpose a similar enclosed cabinet base.

This seems like overkill for a 75 to me. How big is this sump? I think the easiest and least expensive way to go here is to get a new sump that fits under the tank. You don't need a huge sump for a 75. Save the big sump and the plumbing project for your next, even larger, tank. It will happen sooner than you think. lol :)
