I’ve had this plant for many months now in my 40g, at first I had it rooted into the gravel but the catfish eel kept digging it up for some reason and after a while decided I’ll just leave it floating. Well now I have a massive plant that takes up 1/3 of the top of the tank with roots that are maybe near 6 inches long. What do I do? Can I trim the roots so they’re only about 1-2” long and possibly pluck off some of the not so healthy leaves on this plant and bury it?

Do you know what species it is?
That would determine where it grows best.
You could always pot it and that would help keep the cat from getting it.

Put it in a HOB and let the leaves grow out of the water.

I’m not sure what type of plant it is and from where the leaves have been sticking out of the water they’re translucent and pink so I don’t think the leaves should be left out of water lol.

Looks like an amazon sword leaf plant which can grow well with the leaves out of the water. Some will die first after the adjustment period. There are a lot of aquarium plants that are submerged which grow perfectly fine and sometime better with their leaves out of the water.

Alright. This is what I’ll do then, what about the massive roots though
