I have an angel with ragged fins and a white coating on the top of the body. I got it about 3 days ago. The day I got it I noticed that the top of the dorsal fin and the tail fin were ragged and appeared whitish at the edges. I wasn't sure if it the fins were just ragged from fighting or if it was a disease so I decided to wait a little while and see. The fins did not appear to be getting better after a few days but in terms of behaviour it was completely normal, eating and swimming fine. Today the entire dorsal fin is eaten away leaving only the rays and the top of the body has a white film. The fish has also stopped eating and is having trouble swimming.
At this time the fish stores are closed so I can't get any medications. Also, any quarantine tank I can set up now will not have the optimal conditions because of the equipment I have available. The temperature would be about 65 F and I can have it filtered but the filter would not be seeded. The best thing I could do is transfer water and plants from the main tank and hope it can sustain it.
Right now I'm not sure if I should leave it in the tank and jeopardize all the other fish in the tank while giving that one the best chance of survival, moving it to a suboptimal quarantine tank, or simply euthanize it right away. At this point I don't feel like its chances are too good.
