ummmm.... Scary thought, lets say your going to work at a summer camp job that requires you to be gone for 8 weeks.... What to do? I hear fish can last awhile without food, right??? JK JK. But seriously, what should I do. I trust my mom to take care of them, cause she's done it in the past without a problem but will the tanks do okay with no water changes for that long and no filter changes or what?

Thank you for your time.

depends on tank and stock, ive had tanks run perfect for a month or 2 without anything happening to them

IME my fish were fine with me two weeks gone, just the water level dropped. did a WC and fed them before i left too.

Check my tank setup. :] Thank you No fancy equipment just the normal 55 gallon setup you buy at the petsmart, same thing with the other ones just dif sizes.

Not 2 or even 4 weeks EIGHT weeks. Has anyone even done that :O sounds crazy just thinking about it.

Anyone can feed them, it's the w/c's I'd be worried about. 8 weeks is a long time without a w/c.........

Buy an automatic fish feeder and have someone just fill that. No worry about food being dumped in the aquarium.
You could have a friend do your water changes, hire a service for a couple weeks or just white knuckle it and have someone add water to the tank as it evaporates.
You could put nitrate and ammonia absorbing media in your filter/s before you go, they will easily last 8wks, if you get the resin type. Purigen comes to mind. Its made by Seachem and it will last 4-6 months, so 8 weeks shouldnt be a problem.
I'm not a chemical fan myself and I dont even use carbon, but Purigen is definatly an exception I make. Good stuff.
