Hi All,

I have the oppurtunity to get for FREE, a 2 tier 9ft long stand. Currently holding 6 x 3ft tanks. Comes with filter setup, lights, 6 x 3ft tanks, all plumbing and a few other bits and pieces. Tanks all hold water fine, but do need a good clean up.
Stand is in good condition and its all i was originally interested in, but the more I think about it all, the more options I come up with.

Now, my question is.
Do I go with option 1 or 2?
1) Modify the stand to accomodate my 2 x 4ft tanks and sell off or give away the 3ft tanks and bits & pieces. OR
2) Leave the setup as is and try my hand at breeding.

I like both options, I need to make room at home for the second 4ft tank, which will be for my wifes turtles - at moment they are in a 2ft(only small turtles for now). So i could modify this 9ft stand to fit the 4ft turtle tank and my 4ft cichlid tank. I would have to take 3ft off the stand as i dont have enough room in the house for a 9ft stand.
If I was to leave it as is and go with the breeding option, it would be setup in my garage. The only breeding ive had before was with guppies and convicts and we all know how easy that can be. I would like to breed africans to start with and move on from there.

Cheers
Dan

I don't pass up any free aquarium related stuff! If you can't use it now, store it for future potential use since you have room.

I wouldn't bother modifying the existing stand since it's already setup for the current tanks. It would be easier to build your own for your existing space limitations.

Definatly not going to pass it up. Will be picking it up today.

That was my other thought, keep it as is, give it a good clean up and leave in storage until I have chance to do anything with it all. And build a new stand for my 2x 4ft tanks.

I'd like to add option 3, Mail it to me and I'll take it off your hands:p
Seriously though, I'd clean it good and put it in storage and not mess with the stand. If you go the breeding route I'd recomend setting up a central sump for the tanks...it makes life much easier.

Yeah sure. I think we could airfreight it from Aus to USA. Surely wouldnt cost that much lol.

Im going to go with third option.
They had a big canister setup plumbed to all 6 tanks. Looked a bit dodgy and probably not enough filtration.
Sumps have always interested me, but I've never looked into it - Maybe the next step in this project.

Will post some pics of it all tonight.

Free? Fish related? I think you only have two choices here. Yes and yes.

I would just take it like that. It's easy to build stands as long as you have the right equipment.

Picked it all up this afternoon. Tanks need a good clean. Will start over next few weeks, give them all a test fill and go from there.
Came with 4 x 3ft Aqua One Lights, 1 x 2ft Aqua One Light, 2 x Canister filters(still to work out exactly what they are), Big Air Pump, Gravel and a few small decor items.

And all it ended up costing me was a pack of smokes and a cask of wine.

I've convinced the mrs that I'll build a 2 tier stand for my 4ft cichlid tank and her 4ft turtle tank and all this will become a breeding project.

You can try vinegar to remove the deposits and new razor blades. If that doesn't work, Lime Away or similar product will work but be sure to wear eye protection and gloves.
