So my 7.5" or so Female Trimac is proving to be a challenge. She is in a 90g and lives with a yellow lab. Who is oddly, not touched. I have attempted at various points to re aquascape & even remove her and let her be in a different a different tank and then re introduce her, and all to no avail. She tries to destroy everything I add. Small or large, unless it's a male bigger than her and she's courts. But I don't want hybrids so, until I can find a nice male that's not over priced I don't want her to breed. That being said, is there any other fish I could add? I know a 90 isn't huge, she's let a female convict or two live for a month or so then one day it was just dead convicts.

I have a gulper cat in my 110 but I think he'd eat my Trimac lol.

So any ideas on fish that would possibly spur less of an attack or if I just need to hold out for a male. But honestly a 90 for a Big male Trimac is tight. So I'd prefer to just add a species or two. Or 1xx white clouds, ha.

Clown loaches too big to swallow would more than likely be fine. Almost no fish will harass them. If you get them, put some type of cave in the tank that the trimac won't be able to get them in though!

In my opinion, unless you have a really large tank, and I'm talking in the 300 gallon range or larger... sooner or later, a trimac is going to give you problems. For the most part, this species is best kept as a "wet pet"... single fish or sometimes bonded pair (and even then, you may have to separate periodically). Certainly, a 90 or even 110 is not going to work long term, with this fish in a community environment. Or as I prefer to say when dealing with this hobby... might not be impossible, but the odds are heavily against it!

The only time I've seen videos or whatever where they seemed to work okay, was really, really large tanks.

The tank is to small for her and anything else. She wants space, and your not giving it to her. Give her 20 more gallons and stick her in the 110, and put the cat in the 90. Then maybe she may leave things alone. But dont hold your breath.

How long have you had her? At what size did you acquire her? How do you know its a female?

my male is in a 90 alone.hunts down any fish, turns over everything to get at them.i think its true that unless the tank is 300 plus,no chance of a tank mate.maybe start growing out a small male, then in a few months you could introduce him to her tank

I know it's a female, she's been mine for like 10 months or 11 not sure.

I'm willing to give this one final shot. I picked up a nice 8" Female Gullulatas. I got a really good deal. We shall see. I'm going to try the best reacclimation method I've used thus far. The 90 is divided and covered. They are separated In another day I will move them to the others side to let the Gullulatas learn the hiding places better without getting bombarded possibly right away. I'll let them be together come this weekend when I can monitor them better If not the Gullulatus is big enough to be with the gulper... I hope lol. But if this doesn't work she will forever be solo.
