my aro jumped a few weeks back and damaged his head

after a few weeks this lump started to come up

he is still feeding fine

now im thinking i need to remove the aro and try to drain the lump or cut the tuma off if it is a tuma

its a big aro 28 inch and 6 years old

any advice would be good on what to put on the tuma if i cut it as i have never done this before

For now i would do absolutely nothing, richard, since it is acting normally.

Wait and see. Might get reabsorbed...

brain leaking??

I agree with Miguel, if the fish is acting healthy and normal then I'd leave it for now. How long has the growth been protruding? It would be a fairly stressful mission trying to catch and sedate a fish of that size in a tank like yours, I'd give it some serious consideration before deciding it was necessary.

ps. I thought you were moving the big guy on to make way for a pair? (or is this one of the pair?)

the pair fell throw you know the story the guy said they died very strange that happened just 2 days before i got them but what can i say

the lump looks like its changing shape but how long do you leave it to long and it gets bigger then if you do need to cut it will be more of a open sore

it has slowly got bigger over 3 weeks it was just a flap of skin at 1st which is why i was thinking it maybe able to drain it as if the skin healed over with water sealed in side

If at all, but never now, with it being otherwise normal, i would try to prick it with a needle. It may not be hard tissue or a cyst. It may be full of fluid...

without taking the aro out its not going to happen i have tried the problem is its in the aros line of sight as soon as i try to stab it the aros off

I never meant for you to do it without taking the aro out, Richard. That is why i would not do it.

Hmm, if it is steadily growing then I'd be inclined to operate. Do you know of any specialist vets around who you could ask for an opinion? Would the London Aquarium or some other similar organisation be able to point you in the direction of someone who could offer advice based on a bit more medical expertise? I can see why you want to take action with it, but finding out what you're dealing with first would certainly help.

Sucks about the pair, at least you hadn't got rid of this one before he backed out of the deal...
