im new here, and i doing resreach on how to raise a healthy jar. aro. could anybody help? i know its going to be stupid question but plz help.

water: ph, temp, ect
what causes the ph to raise or drop

ummm......
i dont know anything about jars but,the pH willlower (more acidic) of there is too much decaying matter in the water. it will lower if there's a buffer of some sort in there (live plants, soft stone, i think drift wood too)

I don't think you need to worry about all of that. Just put him in an established tank with good filtration, feed him and watch him grow. pH will be higher with calcitic or dolomitic gravel and or tank decorations. Softer water will be provided by peat filtration or water with higher tannin content caused by leaching of wood decorations. Your tap water will have a pH that is high or low related to the mineral content of the water. My jar is in an African Cichlid tank that has dolomitic gravel and the water is hard. The fish are adaptable.
