Hi everyone, I'm new to Monster Fish Keepers but have checked the site on numerous occasions for feedback on several topics, and my current question concerns my current set-up and a fish that I have in it. I currently have a 29 gallon tank at my college with just a 4-5 inch Longnose Gar that I will be moving into a bigger tank at the end of the semester/or year if it's relatively the same size along with a 4-5 inch iridescent shark. The iridescent shark is eating shrimp flakes and loves them and the longnose gar has been eating just rosy red feeder fish as that is what the store fed him when he was at the store. The only issue I am having is that the rosy reds keep dying whenever I have them in their for a relatively short period of time. I have them in about a 5 gallon bucket with an air stone and some rockets. I only have about 8 rosy reds in there at a time but it seems like one dies each day even tho i put a small amount/couple drops of water conditioner into the bucket every other day as well as daily 10% or so water changes. My main question is: What can I do to better make these rosy reds survive long enough so that they can meet their fate to the gar as opposed to the bucket they're being kept in. The gar is only fed 1 rosy red every other day. Is there anything else that would be easier to feed the gar opposed to these rosy red feeders? Any information and help would be greatly appreciated!
