i am considering getting a 5" fire eel from my LFS and was wondering what you guys fed yours at this size. i do not have access to live blood or black worms in my area but i can get nightcrawlers. they are pretty big but i could cut them up or something. My friend who works there says it has been eating feeders, which i now is a terrible idea, but it is better than not eating at all i guess.

Can you get frozen bloodworms?

yeah, but it is supposed to be hard to get them on those at first sometimes. I had one before that wouldn't touch them(i don't think anyway) and he bit the bullet.

How about ghost shrimp?

I've never heard blood worms being a problem initially, maybe after they're larger and used to meatier foods. I would try them and tubifex worms, frozen, that way you can get them vitimin fortified.

mine eat ghost/river shrimp although they r quite big for their lil mouths lol. they have frozen blood worm or krill. even have some sinking pellets sometimes.

You will be surprised how big their mouths actually are. I have a 4 inch tire track that is very skinny and he will eat an earthworm. My angel can suck down ghostshrimp easily. I wouldn't worry about size.
