Just got one yesterday and saw was told that he is eating small worms and I even had the guy put a worm in the tank and the other ray ate it, so I figured he eats the worms too, I dropped a worm in my tank and it floated right on him and he swam away from it, is this due to stress and also would feeding him tilapia be good im open to any kind of food for him to eat, once he gets bigger and is more open towards eating I will introduce him to hikari massavore. Also I will put up a pic later of him because im still insure if it is a true hystrix ray because on youtube I see vids of a white ray with brown patterns and what not and mine is all white.

Is the ray wild caught? Can you get a pic up? if it is wild it is most likely not a hystrix. That being said it is normal to not eat for a couple days after moving him. Worms are the best way to start but considering you did not actually see this ray eat it may be an issue.

Yea- it is what is usually shopped as a "Peru Hystrix" there are usually a few different species that are shipped this way. looks a little skinny but not to bad... try to feed him when the lights are off... worms are goof but your other fish may eat them before he has a chance, you can also try frozen krill (i have good luck with that) cut tilapia cit shrimp etc... black worms also will work. Good luck

ok will do thank you, I have krill but its floating krill ill try handfeeding today
DONT hand feed a newly imported ray.... it will get stressed and you may get stung

Your ray is a juvenile Orbignyi. The patterns differ greatly with this species, anything from very plain like yours to an intricate pattern. The one thing they all have is the mask around the spiracle, yours has it albeit very faint atm, its pattern will intensify as it matures.

Regarding feeding, chop some earth worms up with a blade to form mush, you could mix this together with finely chopped Prawn, feed the other fish first with their favoured food then put this in last with the lights out as UnstoppableJayD says.

Good luck.

Ok will do he is eating as of right now just worms, earth and bloodworms, definitely exciting to watch when he brings his worm against the tank and eats it :)
