I was thinking of getting a fw ray for my 150 gallon tasnk, but now i think they might outgrow it. Do you think any of the small species might fit as adults? if not, what else could I add thats big and predatory?

Hey, welcome to MFK! You should be ok with the smaller species ray for quite a while in a 150 if it's 24" wide. Look into species like reticulata, histrix or scobina.

Unless you are very dedicated to water changes and have had success keeping sensitive fish, I wouldn't recommend rays..

What are the dimensions of the tank? Retics are available, but true Hystrix and Scobina are pricey and seldom available..

Try a single Fahaka Puffer.. That is the perfect size tank for an adult, and they are a great single specimen predatory fish.. They definately have a 'wow' factor when people come over, especially after you tell them they are 100% freshwater!

K got some other ides looking around, maybe a shovelnose catfish oir a fw eel of some sort? I'm sorta afraid of getting puffers from reading about having to trim their teeth in TFH.

If your're getting a Fw eel, might i suggest a Tiretrack eel, and you can put some tankmates likes black ghost knife and senegal bichir. You could even train to handfeed these guys.

could I keep the eel w/ a shovelnose cat and some sort of mid or topwater predator too small for the shovelnose to eat? I'm almost definately getting a lima shovelnose, so tankmates have to be too big to eat.
