:confused:Im about to set up a 40-50 gal and want a jd in it but want another cichlid to go with it what are peoples suggestions any pics would be great.

I would only attempt a male and female JD in that and that is still depending on temperment of the 2 you choose.. 55 would be the ideal minimum for a male and female :)

I would keep the JD and get some dithers like silverdollars. Its is wayyyyyyy out of the question to put a male FH or a male sajica with a JD in a 55

anything else i could put in there other than silver dollars

I have seen Jack Dempseys with almost every type of fish. It all just depends on your personal taste. Loach, Eels, and many Barb species will co-exist with Jack Dempseys.

some people will disagree with me but if you can promise yourself, that you will do 25% water change once a week(every sunday or every saturday or whatever) I guarantee you won't have any water chemistry problems if you put two JD in a 55 gallon. There may be some aggression issues but if you get them both at a young age and let them grow together, I am sure you'll be fine. Although I said yes to 2 JD in a 55 does not mean you can put 1 JD in a 40. You need the 4 foot tank and the 12 inch width, for swimming space and surface area. Buy a 55 gallon, Aqua Clear 110 and weekly water changes and you will have a healthy pair of JD
