I have 3 adult male convicts that will be going in a 180 us gal tank. I was thinking Oscar if I can get one large enough, or vieja of some sort, anybody got any other alternatives for a large center piece fish

Anything really, as long as it can survive until bigger; then all you need is hiding places for the cons

Yeah, you have a wide range of possible tank mates. In my expierence with convicts, even large bull males are for the most part easy going if they are kept away from females. Once they pair off, then all bets are off, thats when they will make claims to territory and will be agressive to fish over twice their size.

but when a spawning isnt involved, they will do some chasing and some gill flaring, but they wont do much in the way of damage, even to fish much smaller than themselves.

Hope this helps

Gotta love em, if I could only keep one type of fish it would be cons lol.

Love mine and now starting to heal after my baby red devil jumped the tank divider and batterd them, only a couple of weeks then the new tank is here and he can go in there, still surprised that a 4/5 inch devil bullied 3 full grown male con's that are all bigger than him.

I've kept Cons with many different tank mates. They're pretty relaxed (the ones I've kept). Except when breeding of course, but if you have 3 males you should be fine with whatever you choose.

I love cons as well. I would do something with color as a centerpiece so you don't have all black fish. I would do one of the following Geophagus Brasiliness, Green Terror, Sysmpillium, Nicaraguan Pair, Jaguar Cichlid or Midas.
