Started out with a pair of red devils which spawned. Male killed female so now I have like 50 1/2" fry and a male 6"-7". Male is solid yellow with great personality crazy glass banger finger biter. Female was also solid yellow. Not a big fan of the yellow. So question one is keep the fry and grow out the best one or just keep my solo male. Question 2 will all the fry end up solid yellow as well or is there a chance of variation. Want to plan a course of action before he gets sick of them hanging around and decides to wipe them out.

Started with 6 RDs to get my pair. First time breeding but odds wise it would make sense I would end up with a better specimen out of a larger pool correct?

Yea, the odds are with a big batch of fry, one or more will grow up to be bigger and look better than the parents. Not a guarantee, but likely. Unless your male is just a monster that won't be surpassed.

Question is, how do you raise 50 fry, for a year or more? You'll need at least another tank, probably 2 or 3. Because you gotta get them to 4-6 inches before they'll peel, or not peel, right?

And then you gotta grow em to 8-10 inches to see how big they'll get, how fast they'll grow, etc. It takes time, and tanks.

I'm in the same boat you are. I have about 20 fry that I've grown to about 3 inches now, and I don't have a clue what I"m gonna do with 'em. I don't want them to just live in the sump, but I just put some Trimac's in my 125 Gallon. I guess I need to get another tank?

I imagine it will be survival of the fittest to a point. They might weed out the weak themselves

The best I can do separation wise is add alot of hiding places to my 125. Wife put a limit on my tank space, bunch of b.s. but then it's probably for the best because I would have tanks floor to ceiling in the whole house
