I went and looked at a 450 gallon acrylic tank tonight with oak stand and canopy. Here's the catch, the guy informed me that the tank had a leak around one of the overflows. I'm thinking (hoping) that it's just the gasket around the inlet or outlet for the overflow. I looked closely at it and could see no obvious signs of a crack anywhere near the overflow. Regardless, we're talking about a real MONSTER here. What would you offer?

lowballer with 200 bucks :D lol

seriously thou.. i dont really know big tanks.. but the max i would pay as a broke ass college student is probably 5 bills..

Yeeeeaaaaa.....I dont think 200 bucks will get me very far in this case.

start low. you can always go up.

a 450 gallon acrylic is probably worth 1000 easy even with the cracked overflow. with oak stand and canopy your looking at closer to 2000, its a drilled 450 gallon. its worth a lot. I would offer maybe 1200 if it looked good where the accident happened, but I haven't seen the tank. But an oak stand and canopy for a 450 is going to be worth a mint...
Maybe he'll take kindly to a low ball? :)

I saw a 500 gallon here locally that was a saltwater setup with everything for 10,000. I'd offer 1,000 and you can always work your way up or say stuff like well it leaks and it doesn't come with this or that etc etc.

I guess I'll just try and point out the obvious to him first before making the offer. Needs to be resealed (possibly ;) ), it's been sitting for 3-4 years in a storage facility, power washed (which is an extra stop on the way home), buffed, filters, heaters, and lights need to be purchased on top of it. Do acrylic tanks usually come with lids for the tops because there was 3 open sections for the top which is much the same for many other acrylic tanks that i've seen. Anything else you can think of to say or do to try and get a good deal out of this?

Dang, I tried throwing $600 bucks at him but he wasn't having it...lol. Looks like $1,000 is as low as he wants to go but it sounds like he might throw the light set up in on the deal. Nothing special with the lights but it's less I'd have to worry about. I got some serious considering to do within the next 24 hours because I told him I would call back on Saturday and pick up Sunday if I went through with it.
