What to put in a 1600 gallon outdoor pond in CT?

I am thinking of putting a monster in my 1590 gallon outdoor pond here in NW CT......The pond is 9.5 feet across and 36 inches deep....It freezes over but I keep a small heater going to allow gas exchange.....Thinking about a Wells......I just one at a LFS....

Is three feet deep enough for it to survive the winter??

Yeah..how much of it freezes over?

All of it except a two by two hole....freezes at least 10 inches deep
