Well i have a 40 breeder laying around so i figure id put it to use. i already have 7 tanks of african cichlids. and im feeling like having some kind of preditory fish. i live in hawaii so my options are really limited -.- any ideas ?

really asking stocking ideas on here is a bad idea as ive had my biorb p60 thread and its been viewed 55 times and i havent had a single stocking idea but ill give you some options why im so generouse

you could do a

Retropinnis Bichir in their for ages its recomended for 50gs but the foot print of a 40B isnt bad and would be fine for a while would eventually need an upgrade maby to 50gs in the future as they grow 1ft

or

Banded Leporinus they do grow 1ft but would be fine in their for a while but would need an upgrade in the future

or

you could do a lima shovel nose for a while but would out grow eventually as they do grow 1ft 7" but would be fine for a while if introduced as a baby

or

a black ghost knife fish would agen be fine for a while but eventually would need an upgrade as they grow 1ft 6"

or

maby a few badis live 3 female and 1 male they grow 3" and are carnivours pritty amazing fish i like them any way

or

1 african butterfly fish & 2 badis the butterfly fish grow 4" and are amazing serface dwellers

or

a Leopard Ctenopoma their purely amazing and only grow 6"

or

2 crockadile fish they grow 7" but are ambush preadaters and dont need loads of space but are highly preadatory and like a mini gar

or

2 dusky panther gobies they grow 4" and are agein amazing fish and nice and predatory

hope this helps and good look keep us updated

Thanks, i wish i could keep birchirs there illegal in hawaii. buttt ....... i might be able to get a hold of some :D haha ima go do some research on this fish thanks

Saltwater fish? It'd make a nice reef tank for a pair of clowns, or maybe a mantis shrimp by itself! Those are wicked cool.

honestly i wanted a mantis shrimp tank butt..... salt water is just a tad bit to much maintanence for me haha.

Haha. It's not that hard if you only have a 40b. You wouldn't need a skimmer, and you could probably use live rock as your main filtration, along with powerheads.

I think I might get a mantis shrimp for a small bedside tank maybe...As long as he doesn't keep me awake at night with his banging. :D

'O'opu akupa
(also known in English as Akupa Sleeper, Hawaiian Sleeper, Oopu, and Sandwich Island Sleeper)
Eleotris sandwicensis (Vaillant & Sauvage, 1875 )
A true Native Hawiian predator which could be kept in a 40 g with good filtration (and some rocks).

If I was you I wouldnt buy any fish to stock since Hawaii has everything from Firemouths to Jewel cichlids running wild in its resevoirs and streams.
